Music And Computational Linguistics

Speaker:
Jindřich Libovický
Abstract:
Thoughts about similarity of music and natural languages are probably as old as the human thinking itself. The last century brought also musicological theories based on linguistic theories. Moreover, algorithms which are used for symbolic processing of music are often inspired by algorithms from computational linguistics or at least similar to them. The talk will start with a brief introduction to the relation of music and natural language. A description of few experiments with a corpus of melodies and automatic melody recognition I did in my master thesis will follow.
