What do semantic web and linguistics offer to one another?

Speaker:
Vojtěch Svátek
Abstract:
Immediately after the emergence of the semantic web initiative around 2000, the interrelationship between the 'web semantics' and the natural language semantics started to be investigated by many. We will briefly review some of the constantly popping up contact points of semantic web and formal linguistics, including the use of NLP for semantic web data/ontology generation, the potential of ontologies for NLP tool interoperability, and explicit modeling of the natural language aspect of semantic web ontologies. The last part of the talk will focus on the recent results (of the presenter as well as others) on natural language patterns in ontology entity naming and their applicability in ontology management.
