Video Recordings

The digital turn in musicology, as in other humanities fields, affords many opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with computer science, but suffers from the usual friction of communicating between fields with vastly different histories, methodologies, priorities, and even culture (such as publishing habits). In this talk, I attempt to provide an introduction to digital musicology from the perspective of a computer scientist (who has been working in digital musicology for the past several years), to highlight the opportunities and challenges involved in making these disciplines work meaningfully together, and to provide some orientation to those who are contemplating a future involving digital humanities.
